Gonsistently accurate length by Cowie and clever variation by Duntiing, supported by alert fielding, especially by Wallace, Gowie and Hadlee in the outfield, and spectacular high catcbes in the gully by Lamason and Hadlee, the latter dismissin^ Wellard, the local sixer speeialist, assisted New Zealand to take nine county wiekets for 170, until a stubborn last-w icket partnership by Bennett and Hazel added 84 runs in 70 minutes, this partnership being efentually broken- by Dunning with a beautiful off-spinner. The Tindill-Wallace com.bina.tion was responsible for Lee being swiftly run out. The resnlt proved. very satisfactoTy considering that it was a batsman*s wioket and that Somerset yesterday defeated the strong Glamorgan side by 263 runs. New Zealand, in a bad failing light, lost Garson and Tindili to fast and accurate bowling by Wellard and Andrews, The game was witnessed by 1000 sportsmanlike humorous West Country people.
