CENTRAL H.B. RUGBY

"Referee. ")

Games Cause Several Surprises INTERESTING JUNIOR GRADES

(By

Last Saturday 's senior games in Central Hawke 's Bay xesulted as follow:-— Waipukurau (25) beat Tikokino (3). Omakere (8) beat Old Boys (6). Takapau (28) beat Ongaonga (6). Porangahau. (9) beat Otane (6).. As was generally expected the OtanePorangahau match was close and exciting. Beaten 24 — 8 by Otane in the first round. Porangahau on this occasion finished three points ahead. Porangahau 's record this season ds becoming most interesting. Losing their first four matches, they have sinee then had five successive wins, and in the course of the last five games they have scored 106 points against their opponents' 28. Well done, East Coast! On their own ground last Saturday Omakere turned the tables on Old Boys, who won their first match with Omakere 10 — ndl. As a much improved team Old Boys were expected to repeat this performance, and the success of the country players indicates yet another complication for local Rugby prophets. Both Omakere and Porangahau now have terf points in the local senior grade; as these teams are both new to the Ccntral Hawke 's Bay senior competition they should be satisfied with such records, Junior Rugby. Another surprise result last Saturday was Waipawa 's 6 — 5 victory over the leading junior team, Waipukurau. The latter team now leads by oue point in t.he junior grade from Old Boys, anct both clubs have solid opponents for their final matehes next Saturday. Old Boys travel to Takapau to meet Takapau A, with whom they drew in thc first round, while Waipukurau play Te Aute at Central Park. As tho College is now out of quarant'ine, its four teams will again take the field this

week. The Te Aute first fifteeu has not played in Waipukurau this season. The re-establishment of a thitd grade has been a nlarked success. Among the five teams competing Te Aute A and Te Aute B have been tbe most prominent. The Tocent epideiuic has resulted in both these teams losing two matehes by default, and thus the third grade competition is now very even. The final Tound will commence next Saturday. Inter- School Matches. As Palmerston Boys' High tscnool are to play in Napier this coming August there should be no difficulty in arranging a Te Aute-Palmerston match about the same time. The onee-famous Moascar Cup would be at stake, if such a match could be arranged. At the present time Palmerston and Te Autd are the only sehools interested in this cup, although there is nothing to prew vent othc-r schools from competition.
