Boy Scouts' Work on a Sunday
A. E J
SPENCER,
Sir, — There has been recently some crfticism of a party of the Boy Scouts planting trees at the Clifton lteserve on a Sunday, the objeetion being that +- do so was not in keeping with proper observhnce of the Sabbath. It is very desirable in these days that elders shotild shoW sympathetic interest in the activiies of the young folk whenever possible, and also support those leaders who generously devote their of ten scanty leisure _ to youth move- , ments. Have the critics in this case ttoticed tha't in connection with the Coronation in Londoh, the Bdy Scoute erected cfush barriers and removed them under /the direction of the police on the three previoiis Sundays? Wa are commanded in the Scriptures to "keep ho/y" the Sabbath Day. >A dictionary defines "holy" in part as "healthv, pure, good, 'guiltless." DoeS not the planting of trees measure up to this definitidn even better than many other activities that are not jisapproved? — Yours, etc.,
Napielt", Juhe 29, 1937.
