1500 MEN EMPLOYED ON LINE

Gangs Disposed Along 150 Miles of Route ENGINEERS' BURDEN Employment for approximately 1500 men for more than a year has been found in the work of cooipleting the Napier-Gisborne railway. Broken up into various gangs along the length of over 150 miles of the line, the men have been steadily employed at different sections of tbe work, most of them being aceommodated in the several camps along the length of the line. The greatest burden of responsibility for the successful conclusion of the work has rested upon the engineer and the several assistant-engineers in charge of the seetions of the line. To them fell the duty of seeing that the work proceeded according to schedule, that supplies of machinery and tools were available when required, and, with the overseers, of arranging the allocation of work. The Distriet Engineer. at Napier, Mr. A. Dinnie, is in charge of the/ general coiitrol of work on the Napief-Waiko-kopu section of the fine. * On the Napier-Putorino section, Mr. G. HalliwelT is the engineer-in-charge, with Mr. T. S. Brown as overseer in charge' of construction and Messrs. C. E. Harvey and P. Mouat as timekeepers. On the Putorino-Te Euni section, including ,the Mohaka Viaduct, with headquarters at the viaduct, is Mr. D. O. Haskell, and with him Mr. J. Foster as overseer in charge of construction, Messrs. H. A. Highat and T. S. Eobinson as overseers on the viaduct, Mr. J. H., Ingley as clerk in charge of the Baupun'ga office, and Mr. O. S. Handley as timekeeper. . . 5 With headquarters at Wairoa, Mr. A. G. Harris is in charge of the Te 'KuniWairoa and Wairoa-Waikokopu sections, 'Mr. J. Cherry being overseer, Mr. L. McAlroy timekeeper, and Mr. C. H. Eyan clerk and paymapter.
