CHEST HOSPITAL

Cboice of a Site At Auckland EFFECT 0N PUREORA (By Telegraph— Own CorrespondentJ AUCKLAND, Last Night. A property of approximately 86 asres at Mount Wellington , which belongs to the estate of the late Mr Mauric© Harding ,and adjacent to the Sylvia Park raiiway station, is part of th3 site for a chest hospital tentatively decided upon by the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt ,and a special ' committee of the Auckland Hospital Board. If the site is approved by the Minister of Health, the board will prob, ably decide to purchase the property at its next meeting. The site, which' has a good elevation, has the advantage of being close' to the" city ,with both road and rail* access, while there is a fine homestead on the property available for the accommodation of the hospital staff. The area pf 86 acres is not sufficient for the board's ultimate requirements, and it is expected that an extra 200 acres will have to be acquired. There is plenty of land available, however, and this will probably be taken under the Public Works Act. The establishment of the chest hospital will mean' that about 80 suff erers from chest complaints will be transferred. from the _ Auckland Infixmary to Mount Wellington, and 40 patients from the Auckland Hospital, while there will no longer be any need to send patients to the Pukeora sanatorium at Waipukurau.
