Quality Lacking At Waipukurau Sale FAT BEEF IN DEMAND A very small yarding in all seetions was offered at the Waipukurau: sale today. There was very little to test market conditions, as quality was lacking throughout. The fat-beef pehs consisted of only a few entries of cows, very few being of butchers, quality. The keen demand cansed them to sell readily. Only one useful line was offered in the store pen, this being a goodquality entry oi weaner steers which sold cheaply at £5. The remainder, which were chiefly Jersey heifers and young dairy cows, were in very poor order. Medium-weight ewes comprised the top line ih the fat sheep p'ens, but these were not up to the quality of .those penned at Stortford Lodge last week Some small to medium-grown wethers showing good quality sold on a par with prices at Stortford Lodge last week. Buyers were offered very little from which to make a selection in the store sheep. Small-grown 4-th breeding ewes brought 27/6, fat and fo'rward ewes making 19/7 and useful carry-over small to medium-grown hoggets 17/-. Eealisations were as follow: — - STORE SHEEP. On account ,of Mr G. Hawthorne, Porangahau, 178 small-frained 4-th ewes out" with Romney ram since March 1 were passed at 27/6. On account of Mr H. Angus, Tamumu, 169 6-yr ewes out with S.D. rams since February 15 and showing well up in lamb were passed at 15/-. These ewes were late shorn, being in light {to medium order and poorly mouthed. • An entry of 82 2-th S.D.-cross ewes in lamb to S.D. ram, good condition, made 26/3. ' On account of Ascot Station, 88 fat and forward ewes with good skins, good order and containing a fair percentage of young sheep sold at 19/7.. . On account :of Mr A, S. Wilder, 85 Romney, wether hoggets, a percentage having been shorn, brought 17/-. These hoggets" were : small to .medium-grown and in healthy- bright condition, making. a useful carxy-over line. FAT SHEEP, An "entry of sged ewes in very poor order, not being in store condition, wero pagsed at 11/-. Elfven small: to medium-framed prime ewes, well woolled, sold at 25/2. ■ A line of 24 well-skinned ewes, but lighter than the previous pen. brouzht 22/6. A small entry of small-framed ^rime Down-cross wethers sold at 29/-. Thirty-six well-woolied small-fram-ed prime wethers, a good-quality mutton, sold at 27/10'. Fifteen small-grown black-faced hoggets, in light to medium order, were passed at 16/-. CATTLE. Three crossbred, aged, plain, unfinished cows, lacking quality, sold remarkably well at £7. A Jersey cross, light, unfinished builock, very plain quality, made dear buying at £8 18/-. A - Red Polled medium-grown Bteer, sold at £5 15/-. Two heavy-boned, aged Aberdeen Angus cross weighty cows, solidly findshed, medium, quality, sold at £8 10/-. Two medium-framed Aberdeen Angu3 cows, solidly finished", showing good quality, brought £7 17/6. A small tc medium-framed cow, carrying a lot of condition, in prime order, brought £6 19/-. Two bnindle cows, medium trames and well finished, made £6 15/-. Four very small grown Jersey heifers,. in rather poor order, were hard to eell at £1 15/-. ' , An entry of very small grown ShoTtiiorn weaner stegrs, in poor order, realised £2 1/.. An entry, of 26 very small grown Jersey heifers, in very poor order, were uot wanted to make a slow sale at 23/-. On account of Mr. R. Matthews, Hatuma, 33 nicely-grown, well-bred Aberioen Angus weaner steers, showing exceptionally good coats, in very good doing order and' sturdy, just Weaned, made good buying at £5.
