Hectic Crossing of Tasman

WELLINGTON, Last Night. After au exceedingly stonny passagc of 84 days acroBs the Tasman the Union Company 's Kaiwarra arrived at Wellington from Newcastle this morning three "days late, rJ?he ship encounteretl che full force of the reeent cyclonic storm which delayed the WanghneUs for thirty houre on her passage fron •Sydney to Auckland last Week. The master and ofiicers of the Kaiwarra declared to-day that it was the worst storm in their Oxperience in thc Tasman. Immediately after ciearin# land on the night of June 19 the Kaiwarra encountered a south-east galcwhich rapidly increaBed in force aweep ing the ship fore and aft. As the gali worsened she had to be hove to ani when she proceedod on her voyage she had frequently to be put at reduce speed. Minor damage was done on the fore castle head and several vontilators o« the foredeck were crushed and twigtect by heavy seas breaking on board. One sea which crashed amidships smashed in the wooden wall of the butcher'a sllop. Another carried" away a vegetable locker and others floodcd the cook's galley on the bridge deck, Under normal eonditions the Kaiwarra should have arrived on Fridav moPliing but at that time she wa?
