SATURDAY'S HOCKEY
■ ^1 i — Two Draws in Women's Section WINS TO KIWI AND SCINDE Tlie weather was not very pleasant on Saturday, and the hockey playiugground at Nelson Park, Napier, was very heavy, but all the same some very good games were witnessed by the small eontingent of spectators present. The senior women's games were both fast and. interesting and both ended in draws. The Technical Old Girls v. Huia game was fast and open, with Huia in fche ascendancy in the first part of the game, but their work in the circle was not impressive and the first spell ended without any score on either side. Soon after the second spell began Miss Lulu Nepetuke shot a goal for Huia, but then Tech. took a hand on attacking, and after several ineft'ectual attempts at goal Miss E. Pycroft finally got one past tbe Huia goalkeeper and made the scores even. The Napier-Te Awa game was one of the best women's games of the soason. T'e Awa were playing their usual good game, but the Napier defence was sound exeept on one occasion when •Miss M. Simmonds shot a goal. In the second spell Napier had the better of the play during the" greater ' part of the Spell, and it was pleasing to see Napier once more playing like their previous form. Mrs Macpherson notclied a goal for Napier and brought the scores level. Although the Napier team were busily atfcackiiig at the finish, no further scores were registered. The senior men's games were also fast but were not so even as the women's games. Scinde were much too good for Wara^ tahs, who were not a full team, their back' Hne being weakened. Victory went to Scinde by five goals to nil. At Taradale, Kiwi beat Taradale by six goals to nil, the local team not playing up to form. Kiwi forwards were well supported by their backs and
kept the balj in the Taradale territory jnost of the time. Kiwi' won by Bix goals to nil. Tbe junior games were all good. Taradale A drew with Scinde with the ocore three-all after a game in whieh Taradale gave the best display nearly all through the^two spells. Kiwi Blue had the better of the game with Taradale B and left off victors by two goals to nil.
