HASTINGS POULTRY SHOW
Fine Birds Amoiig the Exhibits THE JUDGESV AWARDS There wai a good attendance at the Hastings Poultry Show yesterday afternoon and evening, and the many fine birds on ehow were greatly admired. In the Old Englieh Game clafeses, the bntri.es were numerous in the black red section, and fairly large in the others. The rnale birds were good in colour and type, but many of the females were not very good in colour. Minorcas Were a high quality lot, r.hough the best type mhle bird wfes the second-prize cockerel , Wlio failed soinewhat in head poilita but shoilld be good for pullet breediiig. Engdish Leghorns were up to the usual staridard. Wyaudottes are in want of fresh blood. lietter birds have been seen in former vears. Orpingtons were few, but the quality was excelleHt. ithode Isiand Reda were tlie best lot seen for some yeafs. The classes were well hlled with birds of fine type and good coloUr. Bantams Were few but good. The utility classes wefe filled, b'ut the judge rightly passed over birds not of good utility type. However, the birds which received the cardi were all good, the Ithode Isiand Reds especially so. W'hite Leghorns were rather better than they have been for sbme time, and the Black Orpington and Australorp winuers were also gctod. The few Khaki Campbeli dueks were of nice type. . There was oniy oue fancy pigjeon in the show, and teh honier classes have also been better fiiled, and with a better lot of birds than in past years. Cauaries and cage birds made a good display, and there was a particularly fine lot of budgengars shown. Exfiibitors came from Auckland, Palmerston JNortb, Carterton, Wanganui, Lower Hutt, Masterton, Wellington, Gisborne, Waiuku, Hawera and various parts of Hawke's Bay.^ The show will be open this evening. , ihe judge's awards Wefe : — NORTH ISLAND CHAiMPIO.NSHIPS Poultry Rlxode lsland Red (ikncy) : Male, W.
