Stedman played exceliently to win the first two sets. When the seeded Americatx went ahead in the third set, Stedman apparently decided to take a breather and lost the set 1 — 6 , Stedman came agaxn in the fourth set but never headed Grant, who, despite his lameness, continued manfully- and won the ninth gsxme after three dueces to lead 5 — 4 and took the next set with the next game.
