Waimarama Upset United Goid PIRATES WIN AGAIN The Hastings mid-week hockey competition was continued yesterday. The grounds wero very heavy, and fast hockey was out of the question, Neverthpless the games were very interesting. At this stage of the coinpetition the lcading team is Pirates, three poits ahead of Huia and Unitea Gold, who are level in second place. On No. 1 grOund yesterday Pirates played Karori, who were unfortunately Short. The game, however, was ver^ Jntefesting and Pirates proved the winuer s by six goals to oue. Goals for Pirates were scofed by L, MaeDonald (3), B. Walsh, Wilcock and D. Tacon, 4nd J. Atley netted Karori 's only goal. — hlossrs McNab and Mahoney wero ef-£(-icnt umpires. Huia and United White oceilpied No 1 ground for the 3 p.m, game. Although th'e latter team played very short, Huia were hard pressed to win by three goals to one. Goals for Huia were scofed' by Staples (2) and lan HeinapO. G. Huiit was United White 's only scoref. Messrs hfacDonald and Wilcock ably controlled the game. The surpfise of the afternoow was the defeat of United Gold by Waimarama after Gold -were leading by four goals to One teii mfnutes from time. A determined effort - by Waintafama fesultod in theif eventuklly winning by five goals to four. Goals fof Waimarama were scored bv Gillies (2), R. August (.2), and MacWnald, and McNab,- F. Hayes, Lynch, and Kirkman netted for United Gqld. — ^Messrs Giles and Parkhill were the umpires. JUNIOR GRADE On No. 2 gi'ound at 1.-30, Karori and United Rlue tried conclusions. Karori, however,- held too many guns for United &nd rau out- the Winhef s by three • goals to nil. Goals for Karori were scored by Syinons. (2) and Henderson.
