INJURED HORSE

Was Maia Hurt Before Derby , SYDNEY, June 24. When the Maia case was resuxned to-day John Gaxieu, official starter for the Australian Jockey Club, gave evidence for the defence. He said at the start of the last Derby Maia looked all right and showed no signs of lameness, In fact he settled down well at the barriOr. Leslie Fraser, who is a senior A.J.C. steward, said Maia appeared a little fretful and was s-roating a little niore than usual and did not appear to be in his usual condition prior to the start of the Derby, but witness did not notice any soreness or lameness. The case was adjourned.
