DANNEVIRKE HUNT
"The Barb.")
Prospect^ for To-morrow
(By
The annual race meeting of the Dannevirke Hunt will be held on the Dannevirke racecourse to-morrow. Excellent fields for a hunt meeting have been got togethor, vastly superior to last season's, 60 that this body sliould enjoy one of its best race meetings. Hastings and Greenmeadows will be Well represented. The meeting commences with the 12.0: ORINGI HACK HURDLES One and a-half wiles Kentucky Song won at Napier hut at . Hastings was disappointing. Back to a weaker class she may do better. Donegal and Mercian Prince both lack racing experience over hurdles. Otaki has done a fair amount of hunting ao will have to be taken into consideration. War Lap has speed and racing condition and despite having no hurdle . form will be one to keep in mind. Sybil Song ran poorly at Napier Park, but the softer going to-morrow will b'e in her favour. Agog and Trackman both show promise for beginners. The remaining trio have no form to help in summing up. Three that may carry most money are KENTUCKY SONG, OTAKI and WAR LAP. 12.38: TAKAPAU NOVICE STAKES. Aube has been racing for some timc now and is still eligible for this class, which does not speak too highly of his ability. Girl Pat was fancied at Hastings but a bad start robbed her of any chance she may have had. Triplex is one Jikely to pop up any day and collect. Seacourt did not impress at Hastings last week although her track work has been fair for a novicc. Cletrac i was third at Hastings over half a furlong furtber and it is quite possible that the five furlongs to-morrow will be too short. Very little is known of the others although one or two reports from Wellington of late refers to Gabriel as being promising. Three that may appeal most on accounfc of racing- experience, are CLETRAC, GIRL PAT and TRIPLEX. 1.X6: DANNEVIRKE HUNT STEEPLECHASE. Tang^ed has not raced recently but being qualified is sure to have dorie u fair amount of work in the huntir.g field. Last year he '• *s promising to run prominently at the Great Northern mtetilig. Dozie will have to im-prov-9 on Hastings foroi to carry confidenee but the weaker class will undoubedly be in her favour. Cbtsfield, a fine fencer, must on 'that fact alone be labelled aangerous. Taura Lac is no more than a possibility while T'he Ranger and Rioghail have both won ov.-r eountry. Count .Willuyx in his oue start at Napier over eountry was- not very impressive. The oth.-rs are unknown quantities. T'he favourite may qorne from TANGLED, COTSFIELD and DOZIE. % 1.54: RAKAITATAI HACK HANDICAP. Buster Brown, to the writer's way of thinking, has been awarded a little too much weight. Okawa has raced prominently at the small meetings up the East Coast. Gladium was started twice at Hastings to occupy a minor plaee on both occasions but be was also one of the unlucy horses that . raced here last week and should have woh « race. Kohika has won only one race in his career and th:e at this same meeting 12 months back when paying a big price. Excepting ln.r win at Otaki, Marjory Daw has been jnost disappointing of late. Of the remaiuing quaitette Patagonia reads best. What will be better backed than Gladium, Patagonia and Okawa? 2.31: KAITOKE HACK HANDICAP Although Manawatu possesses a fair amount of speed on the flat thiB 'chaser can hardiy be expected to win on tbe flat among horses who are racing in that department. Blue ti®er hangs on well and is a possibility. TJmpiro was second at Napier and third at Hastings. Even Money reads well, Iddo raced prominently for about II furlongs in tbe Corintbian at Hastings so should eee out this 10 furlongs, us he hauflles the wei tracks admirably. Warehi enters calculations. The betting order may read EVEN MONEY, WAREHI and IDDO. 3.12: AKITIO LADIES' BRACELET. A big field in which are amateur riders will have their turn. Miss Pango has won races of this descriptlon. The Drone has speed while Air Laddie may be a little too long "in the teeth" nOw. Widen was never a paying proposition but in a hunters' class may do better. Ali Spirit when raced previously had speed but no stamina. Mesurina may be dangerous if b® takes in into his head. Of the others Cletrac and Tommy Atkins read best on account of condition. The favourit'es may be CLETRAC, MESURINA and MISS PANGO. 3.50: GREENHILLS HACK HANDICAP. Firsfc Chapter ran two fair races at Hastings on which skowing he will have to be taken intd consideration to-morrow. Salon is said to have improved since runuiug third at Napier Park, Master Limood has not conie up to the promise of 12 montha back but this Resmocs gelding has not raced of late, Even Mctey, if started again, will be one to ponder over, the same field all have previous engagements. applying to Gladium. The rest of the Recovery may be'looked to from FIRS'I CHAPTER, SALON and EVEN' MONEY.
