COUNTRY DANCING ENJOYED BY GUILD CIRCLE

Two interesti'ng demonstrations given to the members of the arts and crafts circle of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild at their meeting yestnrday afternoon, were followed most intently and those present will no doubt waste little time before putting what they learnt into practice. ' Mrs L. W. Goldfinch, the circle leader, introduced Miss H. Pope who showed the members most ably how to mako wood fibre flowers. Miss Pope showed several different types, a dog rose, a bunch of violets and a briar rose, comuiencing from the very beginning, eut,ting the petals from the small sheets of dyed wood fibre, plgcing thom into the flower, this being followed by the making of the spray with leaves, flowers and buds.. A variety of very attractive • sprays of different flowers were exhibited by Miss Pope and much admired by the guild members. After tea had been enjoyed a demonstration on the making of • seagrass stools was given by Miss McMichael and as several of the members had brought stools in readiness a very buay time was spent and much work done. Miss McMichael kindly promised to attend the July meeting to give further help to those requiring it. Two- competitions attrfected. a large number of excellent entries, the first for a plate of biscuts, was won by Mrs E. Riley, Mrs G. McCormick 2, Mrs C. P. Hopliins 3, Misg Ebbett v.h.c. and Mrs Harper h.c. (judged by Mrs L. W. Goldfinch). The seoond competition was for the best article costing not more than one shilling and. was judged by Miss McMichael and Mrs Pope and resulted : Mrs Lassen 1, Mrs Sm'ith 2, Mrs Dyer 3, Mrs Halstead y.h'.c. and Mrs Underwood h.c., the exhibits" beiug all much admired. - ' " Mrs Goldfinch announced that nest month's competition would be for an eggless cake (see to-day's recipe), and also that- the circle's -birthday party would' be in August and -not next month. • •
