NAPIER MATCHES

"Penalty Corner'.")

An Improveiiient Evident

(By

I'liere has been some improvement in ..o play of several of the Napier oan.s during the past few weeks. and i bis waa noticeable in some of the games on Saturday. Tho JSapier women 's team played their best game this season, and revealod a glinipso oi their last season 's 'brm. Mrs McPherson, who has been playing a consisteutly good game all the eeason, was tttter supported than in mo&t of the eariv games, and .u il.e game against Huia on Saturday she scored twice, while Miss Fischer alSu netted for Napier, Napier have a good* nack division, tui; want of coiiesion tiniong them has been a fault in somo of the games. ilyia lacked eouibinnlion ainong tlm forwards, though they put plouly of dash into their play. ,

In the men 's junior, Taradale put two teams in the field and won with obth. Taradale A beat Kiwi White by a big margin, but the game between Taradale B and Kiwi Gold was closer, the former winning by a margin of two goals. There was some bright, snappy play m the Kiwi Blue-Scinde game, but it was some time before the two teams settled down to the fact that the heavy state of the ground nullified some of their passes. However, play was very even during most of the game, and th« score, one to nil in favour of Kiwi Blue was a fair indication of the game. A large uumber of players seem to uegleet praetice in the very important f ea ture of clever stick work. This was uildoubtedly one of the strongest featurcs of the Indian players who toured New Zealand last season and was responsible Iargely for their big scores. And it also makes the game more attractive to spectators.
