WELLINGTON, Last Night. Tenders rebejitly closed for 76 houses in various parts of New Zealand undef the Governxhent hohsing scheme ahd Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary UnderSecretary in charge of Honslng, said to-flay ih annohpcing thfe results of the tendering that there was absolutely ho justification for the wide disparity that existed in the various prices- in vafiohs places. The Government had no intehtion of paying the exdrbltanfc prices tendered in some tpwas. He referred to a disphrity ih one case of £370 and said a difference in the cost of £50 was equivalent tq at least ls per weelt for thecxent that should ffie chatgedl, IndiCating that somh tenders wete to be readvertised Mr. Lee shid he hoped. local buildere would take the opportutiity and be able to make good. If' they did hot the Government would be foroed to take other steps than plicing reliance on local buildArs alone. He said that in some of the eity contracts a price of 18 ahd a fraction skfllings per foot hdd been yeceived and against this he contrasted a Gisborne tehder of 30 ahillings.
