j % i^i > Scheme Discussed with Engineer (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIROA, Last Night. The Wairoa Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor and all the members except Ors. Archibald and Brady. Most of the time usually allotted to the discussion of borough business was taken up in discussing with Mr G. Hart, retired Wellington City engineer, the matter of a report on the sewerage system for the borough. Mr Hart stated what he needed in the way of in-. formation of a preliminary nature before he could- draft a scheme or submit estipates. This would take four monjhs, and by March he would be ablo to go into the matter. Later the council decided to authorise the local engineer to secure the assistanee of a draughtsman and proceed as asked by the visiting engineer. It was also decided to approach the Employment Pro motion Board and the Minister of Labour to provide 50 per cent of the i cost in labour.
The second matter dealt with was the position as between the council and Mrs Bellam, executrix of the late Mr Bellam, . one of the partners of Bellam and Murray, Auckland, in regard to tlie contracts for metal and the water tanks construction. Very full statoments were submitted in regard to the rismg costs and the transport laws. Later the council decided to pay the firm £120 on certain conditioris, and to cancel the present contract which had become unecohomic; the matter of the rar'ks to be dealt with on completion. The whole of the staff reports were adopted with slight alterations. A, tribute was paid to the late Mr R. C. Stocd. Arrangements were made for attending the function at Mohaka Viaduct, it being ascerlained that the Ministers M'ould arrive by rail car and go on to Wairoa by the samo means of travel, wlien deputations and a eivic function are to take place.
