N.Z. BATSMEN BREAK DOWN

the Speoial Correspondent of the United Presa Assooiation with the Team.)

Unpromising Siart Against Norfolk TEST MEN GO CHEAPLY

(From

(Received 24, 10.5 a.m.) NOUWICH, June 23. The New Zealand cricket team neutralised its effective bowling of the morning by indifferent batting in. the afternoon against the insecure firstinnings attack of Norfolk, when an opportunity was presented for useful batting practice on a good wicket. Gallichan struck a good length and a constant spin. The liome side's inningj was maintained at one end while change bowlers were tried at the other. Roberts made a wonderful running catch on the boundary. Tindill was excelleut behind the wickets. Thompson, who some consider to be as fast as any first-class bowler, and Roughtroug/ht, who also is fairly pacy, dismissed the first five New Zealand batsmen for 88. From this bad start the- tourists never recovered, though Weir, Lama&on and Tindill played a determined innings. The batting breakdown was alarming in view of the presence of several batsmen who are considered to be among the mainstays of the probable side for the test. The game attracted spectators from all parts of the county. The attendance was 2000. Scores: — NORFOLK. First Innings. Thistleton-Smith, b Weir ... 9 B. W.
