Direction is .'undamenlajly responsible for the high slandard reached by "The Plainsinau." The filrv obviously, is the work of a master, and perhaps only Ceeil B. de Mille could have made it. Eacb scene is directed with a clear and complete knowledge of popular demands in sereen entertainmenl ; eaeh scene is so deftly haDdled iu fbc iudividual sense as to beeoaie itsell' a minor masterpiece, yet blended harruoniously into the greater master piece oi' the whole production. To call "The Plainsman" an epic is to do no more than justice to a geuuinely great achievement. It is a colourful slice of history, moulded into a gripping story, dressed and treated with a tliorough understanding, and served iu a masterpiece of sereen production. ,
