Council Congratulates Power Board

; WAIPUKURAU, This Day. i While heartily approving of the Central Hawke's Bay Power Board 's decision to reduce eiectric power charges for business and hall lighting, by introducing a graduated method of charges, the Waipukurau Borough Council regreta that the charges for waterpumping does not carry the same discount. The Power Board 's recent decision in this matter was discussed at last night 's council meeting, when the following resolution was adopted, on the motion of the Mayor, Mr I. W. N. Mackie: "That this council's congratulaticu3 be accorded to the Central Hawke 's Bay Power Board on its decision to reduce ibs charges for business and haJ] lighting by introducing a graduated method of charges, and also expresses satisfaction that street lighting is ineluded in the scheme of discount for prompt payment; but that the council regrets that the charges for Wjiterpumping does not carry the same discount, seeing that the revenue to the board from either source ds of the eanu* cash value." In presenting his motion, Mr Mackie said that remarks had been made to the effect that the council had not returned thanks to the board for its decision to reduce. charges. "I think it is up to us to put matters right now," he added, "and acknowledge that the Power Board has done something for us." His mobion was seconded by Cr. R. W. Carpenter, who thought, however, that the board might have included a reduction in etreet-lighting. "While on this subject, I would like to congratulate tho borough representatives on the Power Board for their big effort, not only to safeguard the interests of the constituents of the borough, But also ; of those in outsjde areas in the matter of a future policy for reticulation." he added. Upon his motion, the council adopted a resolution congratulating the borough representatives on the board for tbeir work in this respcct
