OBITUARY

MRS. P. ALDERMAN In the passing at Palmerston North on Friday of Mis. Philomene Alderman, at the age of 67 years, there was removed one who had for over 50 years been a close adherent and an active worker for a very lonjg period of the Salvation Army. • Though quiet and unassuming, Mrs. Alderman had a wide circle of friends, and her passing will be regretted not only within the ranks of the Salvation Army but also in other circles. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Jessop, Mrs. Alderman was' born in Marton and spent her early life in that centre, in Palmerston North (where she joined the Army while still a young girl), in Pahiatua and in Hastings. She was •married to the late Mr. Matthew Alderman at Hastings and residecl successively at Hastings, Pahiatua, Feilding arid Palmerston Notfth. At Feilding her husband will be remem bered for his large strawberry gardens, and at Palmerston North he cOndueted a fruit shop in the Terrace End areii until four years ago, when he passed away shortlv after his retirement. Mrs. Alderman is survived by Mrs. E. G. Wright, a daughter, who resides in Heathcote Avenue, Hastings. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Alderman liad not enjoyed the best of health, and after a period in hospital she had been cared for latterly by Mrs, F. F. Fisher, of Limbrick street, Palmerston North, a cloae friend.
