Completion of Necessary Work TOTAL COST OF £5400 Advice was received on Saturday by tbe Hawke's Bay Rivers Board that the scheme put before Ihe Government some -time ago for the eompletipn of the necessary work to the Tutaekuri river had now been approved. A start will oe made with the work almost* immediately. Of the total cost of £3400 only £2025 will row have to he pontributqd by tbe iocal bodies concerned. A schpcule of the amounts ma'i'ng up ti e tctal is. as iollow: — £ Labour Department 1350 Public Works Department 2025 Local bodies 2025 Total 5400 The major portion of tbe work to'be compieted is in improvements to the channel and in planting near Redelyffe. No information is at present available of the number of men who will be employed upon tbe work. ' • ' A tribute to the work of the engineer of the board, Mr G. Rochfort, and tbe men empl.oyed on the work at the new mouth of the river was paid Dy the secretary of the board, Mr W. G. Pallot. For several day* before the final opening of the river mouth, be said, the men had been engaged in working for long hours, and when th.e mouth was finaily cleared by a charge of dynamite the end of a long period of higb-pressure work was reaehed.
