SIX MAIDS IN BLUE CHIFFON ATTEND BRIDE
ARTHUR — SHEILD A very beautiful and colourful effect was achieved by the bride and her six maids at the marriage of Helen Maude, second daugkter of Mrs. M. E. Sheild and the late Mr. Duke Sheild ,of Waikonini, Hastings, and Dick Harcourt, son of Dr. and Mrs. Harcourt Arthur, of Wellington. The wedding was solemnised at St. Matthew's Church, Hastings, on Saturday afternoon, and lovely howls of shaded pink and white camellias and fern were arranged at the altar of the church. The ceremony was performed by the llt. Rev. H. W. Williams, Bisliop of Waiapu, who was assisted by the Rev. K. Liggett. Mr. C. B. Spinney presided at the organ, and the St. Matthew's boys' choir sang the psalm and hymns. Honey blonde chiffon faskioned the bride' s lovely gown, whichi was cut 1 with a very full skirt with a long train mounted on a slip, with rows of tiny 1 frills at the hein., The bodice had a i high neckline and tiny collar studded with briliiants and the narrow cuffs, which finished the full sleeves, were also. trimmed withi briilianta. She wore a long tulle veil, the same shade as her gown, with a little spray of orange blossom across the front, over the face while in the church and later thrown back. A beautiful sheaf of pale greeywhite orchids and maidenhair fern was carried. Attractive gowns of delphinium blue rippled chiiffon were worn by the six bndesiuaids, who were the , Misses Gwen Shield ,the bride' s sister, Cynthia Jefferd, Zoe Fryer, Fanny Pattison, Nancy Nolan (Wairoa) and Janet Miles (Wellington). Their gowns were exactly alikei and' were beautifaJy pin-tucked on the corsage, which had a squarc neckline siiglrtly V-shaped in the front. 'Ihe long full sieevos were iitted into tiny culis, and the skirts were very tlared with mset gociets mounted on stiffened net. Eacli maid wore blue sandals and a short veii of blue tulle over a little coronet of pink cyciamen and fern. Shear's of- shaded pink cyo.amen and maiden-hair fern were carried by the bridesmaids, and their gifts from the bridegroom .were evenmg purses. . 1 Little Robin Clark was a very dainty iiower girl in a Kate Greenaway frock "of the same material as tho older maids. The liem, puffed sleves ,*anu collar were edged with tiny frills, and she had a natural posy in her hair and carried a ball of blue fiowers. Mr. Tony Roberts was best man, and the groomsmen were Messrs. Jaines Knight, Alistair Monteath, John Paton, Wilcot Ormond and Benjamin Rutherford. 'Ihe bride's brother, Mr. Peter Sheild, gave her away, and the ushers at the churcli were Messrs. Guy Barron, Hugh Arthur and Nick Wiider. The wedding reception was lield at the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Service Club, where the guests were received at the entrance to the lounge by Mrs. M. E. Sheild and Dr. and Mrs. Harcourt Arthur. Mrs. Sheild wore an ensemble of navy blue mariette with hand-made ivory satin fiowers at ' the neck. Her navy hat had touches of ivory in the trimming, and she car- ■ ried a bouquet of pink cyciamen, rosebuds, purple pausies and fern. Mrs. Harcourt Arthur wore a frock and three-quarter coat of black afghalaine, the coat fashioned high at the neck with fur trimming and a fcraall biack toque. Her bouquet was of golden lachenalia, wall-flowers and fern. Tlie reception was a particularly jolly one, several toasts being honoured during the wedding breakfast. The toast to the bride and bridegroom was proposed by Mr. C. Pattison, the bridegroom responding. When the bride and bridegroom left for their honeymoon the bride changed into a tailored ensemble of blue Harris tweed with three-quarter coat and skirt worn with a brown figured silk blouse. She wore a brown toque and skunk stole. After a very rousing send-off the young couple left by car and will make their kome in Wellington. Following the wedding a large number of young people enjoyed a buft'et dinner party and afterwards dancing at the Silver .Slipper Cabaret in
Napier, which was beautifully decorated with masses of fiowers, whlie in the centre of the room a bevy of white gas-filled balloons floated from the floor to the eciling. A bright log-fire at one ond of the room was welcomed by the dancers. Among the guests were the bride's grandfather, Mr. A. H. Wallis, of Gisborne, and her aunt, ■ Mrs. H. E. Williams (Ruatoria), tho latter wearing a frock of petrel blue sheer wool with hat in the same shade, and a skunk stole. She had a shoulder spray of orchids and fern.
