Norsewood "500" Party. A fair number of card entbusiasts attended the Norsewood Women 's Institute's fortnightly "500" card tournament, and a most interesting time was spent. Mrs F. Mortensen won thje ladies' prize, and Mr Nielsen (Makotuku) the gentlemen's. Supper was served at the conclusion of the play. Old Linen Wanted. The Makotuku School Committee mei with a f-iu attendance of members. The master, Mr A. Neiison. reported that the roii number is now 3*6,' and average attendance 34.2. The agr.cultural instructor, Mr Hurdsfield, had visited the school to inspect and weigh the mangolds in the root-growing competition, in which James Oarruthers had won third place in the Southern Hawke 's Bay districts. The secretary reported on the fuel provision for the cold weather, and it was decided to buy a ton of- coke, and have the firewood sawn into suitable sizes. It was also decided to advertise for tendere for cleaning, the present contract having expired. JLt was resolved to hold a children 's fancy dress dance during August in aid of school funds. A very hearty vote of thanks was aecorded Mr Carruthers for his help with tho boys' football at the seven-a-side contest on King's Birthday. Norsewood Golf. The Norsewood ladies' golf match, postponed from last Wednesday, will be held next Wednesday. The same players will participate.
