AUCKLAND, This Day. The detrimental effeqt of the importation of footballs from such countries as India on firms in New Zealand which have specialised on their' manufacturo has been brought under the notice of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. SuUivan by an Auckland manuf aeturer, • The writer states that his output of footballs has dropped from approximately- 9000 last year to. 2000 this season, although fortunatcly ho has been ahle to divert his etaff to other branches of leather wprk, primarily as a result of the demand for travelling I'equasites for the Coronation, There. is a possibility, however, that this increased demand for other leather goods may not be sustained The writer points out that in India - there is no limit on hours of work and workers receive small wages fpr their labour. He asks the Minister to taka action.
