RED POLL CATTLE

Annual Meeting of Breeders . The opinion that breeders were only •waiting for the removal of the embargo to iinporfc blopd stock from England was ,an opinion expressed by tho president, !Mr J. W. Harding, of Waipukurau, at jthe annual meeting in Palmerston North |yesterday of tbo New Zealand Red Poll Breeders' Association, Tbp report for the presidont stated:-^-The year began with 8Q members. During the year 8 have resignod, 2 have been struck oflE and 14 aew members have enrolled, a net gain of 4, so that we end the year with 84 members. 3}uring the year Yol. XII. of the Herd , Bo'ok was publiphed, cpntaining the rm gistration of 139 bulls and 272 females, with. an inereaso proportion of entries in the two higher classes. The income from transfers is greatly in excess of that of the previous year, indicating an increase distribution of Red Poll cattle throughqut the Dominion, The annual consignment salo in Feilding attraeted a good entry of cattle and the demand wa§ good. TJnfortunately the condition of a majorrey of the entries left jnnch to be desjred, Nevertheiess the salo led to the establishment ef at least 5. new herds. A notabl.e eveut reeently was. the dispersai of the old and well-established Kukuta herd, owing to the winding-up of the estate gf the late A. G. Anderspn. it i? a matter for satisfaction that the Herd Brefix will be retained by Mr G. B, Anderspn, who purchased a good seleetion of the cattle, while the dispersal ef the remainder will strengthen the existing herds and establish new ones. New blood has been imported again from Tasman; a, while it is understood that at least ene bull is new on the way from England, There is good rcason to believe that several breeders are only waiting for the lifting of the embargo to make further importations. During tho year Mr J, S. Elliott visited many shews and herds in England and a mogt informative aceou.nt of whai he saw was published and ciranlated. The hon. secretary is at present on his way to England, having been given a Oarnegie Travelling Eellowship, and during his absenee Mr Mr D. S. Hart is acting secretary.
