wi— ii » 111 ■ Improvement Shown on Basis of Quality EWES PREDOMINATE Last sale's firm market for fat sheep was fully maintained at Stortford Lodge yesterday when, on the basis of quality, an improvement wae shown. Fat ewes reached a fresh high level for the season when 36/- was realised for an entry on aceouiit of Mr. John Farquhar, of Otamauri. Ewes predominated and the yarding offered a wide range of quality, including a good proportiou of secondary quality. Two-tooths were among the top quality entries and these sold readily. Hog* gets also met with a keen inquiry, the tops making 28/-, light second-quality sorts being as cheap as 20/-. "Very few pens of wethers were offered, the best Southdown making 32/-. Realisations were made as under:— An entry of 16 light aged ewes, earrying a good slipe, brought 23,/ 6. A small-grown line of blaek-faced hoggets, ehowing good finish, made 23/3. An entry of inferior quality, aged ewes, unfinished, sold at 19/-. A nice medium-grown entry of Southdown two-tooth ewes realised 22/-. From the same source, a line of mixed-aged, prime Southdown ewes made 25/-. An entry of light, second-quality hoggets brought 20/-. On account of Mr. J. C. Bell, Whakapino, two pens of medium to heavy prime, well-woolled ewes sold at 31/3. • An entry of small-grown, half-bred wethers, in light to medium order, made 26/-. A line of black-faced two-tooth ewes, showing extra prime quality, were purchaised by T. J. Thompson and Sons at 31/-. On account of Mr. J. Farqunar, Ota- ' mauri, a pen of medium-grown, well- , Hnished wethers brought 33/6. On account of the eame vendor a pen of extra heavy prime well-woolled ewes sold at 36/- to Mr. J. R. Martin. A particularly good line of extra prime, choice-quality, medium-grown hoggets was purchased by Mr. J. B. Fletcher at 28/6.
