"MAD HPIADAY." While a Chinese dragon writhea ifcs way aoross the stage, blood drips from a theatre box ia San Franeisco 's Chinatowa, and, thuis jnurder finds its unique setting in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's mystery thriller, "Mad Holiday," which screens at the Regent Theatre to-night with Edmund Lowe and Elissa Landi in the leading roles. The "movie within a movie" angle of the picture centres upon Edmund Lowe appearing as a Hollywood star who, sick at being typed in mystery parts, walks off the set and takes the fateful coastwise steamer voyage. Miss Landi, playing the author of the picture out of yvhich. he has "walked," also embarks on the steamer, determined to bring the aetor back at any cost eveu to devising a make-believe murder, When the hoaxed murder. turns out unexpectedly to be a real one the complications begin. "Mad Holiday" was adapted from the Joseph Santloy stoiy "Murder in a Chinese Theatre." George B. Soitz deserves plaudits for his competent direction, and ihe picture can be recommended as a treat for those who like something nnusual in their mystery dramas as well as for those who like their chille well padded with iiglithearted hmmour.
