BRIGHT MARKET FOR CATTLE

v Bullocks Make Good Price oi £14 2/6 SHORTAGE OF HEIFERS A bright market prevailed for the moderate yarding of fat cattle at Stortford Lodge to-day, when quality entries commanded a good market. Cows predominated, the yarding being the best quality seen for some time. Ox beef was also represented by heavy quality entries, the outstanding entry being of large-framed Aberdeen Angus bullocks whieh topped the market, realising to £14 2/6. This is the highest price recorded for some time in the yards. A further entry of heavy ox beef, on account of Mr R. Hanrahan, and fattened at Te Mahanga, brought to £13 14/-. Small-grown extra prime sorts made to 33/- per 1001bs., while plain-quality lines brought 27/- per 100 lbs. The yarding included three good station-bred drafts of cows which came forward in good order. These cows were in fresh order and should all kill But good quality beef. The top price was £8 14/-, and the average price throughout for these drafts would range from 22/- to 23/- per lOOlbs. There was an unusual shortage of heifers, the few pens being very small grown and in light order. At a late stage a medium to heavy entry of dehorned Hereford heifers, in extra prime order, sold Teadily at £9 10/-. Bealisations were as under: —

OX BEEF VALUES. " On account of Taurapa Station, an entry of heavy prime quality HerefordAberdeen Angus cross bullocks, solidly finished, realised to £12. On account of Mr R. Hanrahan, Te Mahanga, large-framed, heavy, aged Aberdeen Angus bullocks, carrying a lot of condition, brought £13 14/-. A similarly bred heavy bullock in the same pen brought £13 12/6. A lighter framed bullock, showing a Hereford cross, brought £13 10/-. A much smaller framed younger bullock, prime finished, sold at £11 13/-. A single small-grown extra prime Aberdeen Angus steer, in splendid condition and would kill out at 6001bs, brought £10 10/-. On account of Rukumoana Station, Hereford cross, bullocks, small to medium' framed and light finished, being empty after several days on the road, realised to £9 7/-. On a'ceount- of Messrs Morrison Eros., an entry of clean-bred, heavy, large-framed, prime-finished Aberdeen Angus- bullocks, being an outstanding entry of heavy winter ox beef, topped the market, realising to £14 2/6. On account of the same vendors, a further entry of similarly bred bullocks, equally well finished but slightly smaller framed, realised to £13 12/6,

COW BEEF RATES. On account of Mr R. Matthews, Tikokino. a draft of Hereford cows, showing a solid finish and prime quality throughout, ranged, according to weights, to £8 10/-. The whole of this big entry came forward in splendid order, being fully up to butchers' re: quirements. They showed evidence of having been well done and met with keen bidding to sell readily. On account of Mangakuri Station, an entry of six large-framed Shorthorncross cows, medium to heavy weights, carrying a lot of condition, sold to £8 From the same station a pen of medium to heavy Shorthorn cows, the b'est being of prime quality and well finished, sold. to £8 12/6. From the same source, a further entry of Shorthorn cross cows, rather smaller-framed than the previous entries, but showiing a slightly better fiidsh, made to £8 8/-. An entry of light-finished, aged, medium-framed Hereford eows, lacking quality, ranged from £4 12/- to £5.
