Football and Basketball at Taupo

TA U ir U, Last JNlght. A seliools' football and basketball tourney was held at the Taupo recreation reserve recently, and proved a great 6uccess. This was the first attempt to hold a combined tourney among schools as far south as Te Haroto and %s far north as Mohaij including also Tokaanu, and it is to be hoped it will be the forerunner of organised school competitions in and around the Taupo district. At the conclusion of the tourney, the teams assembled at the Taupo school for refreshments. Thanks are due to the Taupo Eugby Union for financial assistance, to the Taupo Women 's Institute, to the parents aud supporters who made donations of cakes, etc. The speech by the headmaster, Mr. Christensen, explained fully the objects of the tourney, and Mr. Arthur Grace, as chairman of the .Eugby tjnion, Taupo, suitably replied. Following are the results: — Eugby Football: — Oruanui 17, Waitahanui 0; Taupo 6, Mokai 0; Oruanui 6, Taupo 0; Mokai 9, Waitahanui 0; Oruanui 9, Mokai 0; Taupo 15, Waitahanui 0. Basketball: Oruanui 4, Taupo 3, Mokai 1, Waitahanui 12; Taupo 4, Waitahanui 3; Mokai 3, Oruanui 1; Taupo B 7, Mokai B 6.
