Norsewood Methodist Guild» There. was quite a good number preeent at the monthly meeting of the Norsewood Methodist Ladies 7 Guild, pres.id.ed over by the president, Mrs. H. P.. Mortensen. The meeting was held at, the residence of Mrs, H. Frederikson, and a. pleasant afternoou was spent. Mrs. A. Qlsen gave a veiy iuteresting reading, which was thoraugh!y appreciated. Matters iu connectioa with the local church wer© dealt with, and a social chat over a dainty afternoou tea, served by the hostess, l brought the meeting to a close. Local Body Amalgamation. Support of a resolutvon that legislation be amended to provida for a poi! of ratepayers b.efore any amalgpmation of iccal bodiea talces place wus sought yesterday of the Waipawa Count Council by the Makara County Council. On the motion of the Waipawa county chairman, Mr JL M- Paulsen, councillors agreed to discuss the matter in committee at the conclusion of general business at tho monthly meeting. Mr Paulsen ■presided over Crs. T. Butler, L. Glenny, C. Bainbridge, B. Gray and O. Thomsen. The engineer, Mr V. S. Douglas, and the county clerk, Mr F. Holt, were also present. Unmetalled Settlement Soads. Unmetalled roads ^ving access to settlers in the Waipawa County are to be given attention "by the Public Works Department, which has askod the Waipawa County Council for a list of all roads concerned. A list was approved at yesterday's meeting of the council and will be forwarded to tho Public Works Depq-rtment, Oespicablfi Thefts. That there ara some mean and despicable individtcals about is evidoneed by the petty thneving of benzine from the Waipawa Fire Brigade Station. On attempting to ' start the motor one morning last "week the caretaker found that the tank had been drained, and had an alarm been sounded the brigade would have lost valuable timo in getting to the re. The matter has\ been place in the hands of the police. Assistance Appreciated. Gratitudo to all those who have assisted the Waipukurau District Returned Soidiers' Association during the past year was expressed by the president, Mr A. O. Williams, in his annual report adopted last night. "They include the Waipukurau Band, Orcliestral Society, performers at the social evening at Pukeora and the reunion at Waipukurau, and others," ho said. •We are also indebted to the general public who have ,given us the fullest eupport at all times. I would also like to refer to tho harmomous relations that have always existed among members of the branch and to the efficient service given by our Secretary, .Mr W, u. Steere." Point-To-Point Meeting. . ... The Hawke 's Bay Hunt Club has received permission to hold a point-to-point race meeting at Tikokino early in August, Because this is tho first occasion in the history of the club that such a meeting will be held in Central Hawke 's Bay, the fixture is giving rise to much interest. Further information will be published in the near future.
