Waipawa Engineer's Report for Month
(From
WAIPAWA, This Day. Following is the report submitted by the engineer, Mr. V. E. Douglas, at the monthly meeting of the Waipawa County Council: — Waipawa Eiding. — The visibility to Bumbal's Bridge has been improved. Two chains of road in Tikokino have been reformed ready for metalling. Drains were cleaned on the Wakarara road and elsewhere as requirod. Other work included gradang and general maintenance. Qngaqjiga Eiding. — The new lorry is now stationed at Wakarara and is proceeding with the metalling of Glenny 's road, Wakarara road and North Block road. The horse grader worked in tho riding and completed the Hinerua road, Pcndle Hill road, "Wakarara road to Gardner and Yeoman's mill, North Block road to Laugeson's, Mathews road, Hickey's road and Glenny 'a road. It has now moved to Ongaonga to complete Mill and Pettit's Valley ro ada, after which it will move on to Clinton. A conference with Messrs. Theobald, Wells and Perry relative to Perry's drain, was held at which the riding members and myself were present. Clinton Eiding. — Severinsen 's road was patched, a start was made with Black 's road hill, and metal was spread as required on Ashcott-Waipuku-rau road. The caterpillar grader cut out and reshaped the Makaretu-Clinton road between Makaretu store and SeveTinsen's. This appears to have been successful, and further work will be done when the grader can be spared. A slip was removed from WilsOn'a cutting. Cattle stops of rough timber were erected at Sherwood bridge. Takapau Eiding. — Crushed metal was spread on Paulson's road, Nancy street and Otawhao Dairy Factory road. I re-' commend that this latter road be metalled When necessary throughout its length". A soft patch on the Aorangi road was dug out and metalled, the drainage being improved. There Is a dangerous corner on this road leading down to the culvert which should bo widened and fenced when opportunity occurs. Maia Highways. Napier-Palmerston- State Highway. — Considerable patching was carried out during the month, and pit metal used in building up the edges of the road. Eedecking of the Waipawa trafiic bridge over a considerable length is long overdue, and now that the necessary decking has been reeeived work is being commenced. As the life of this' bridge is limited, it is not consiciered economical to use expensive hardwood and iocal stringy bark is being tried. Fernhill-Takapau Main Highway. — Proposals for the reeonstruction of one mile through the Tikokino township have not yet been approved by the Main Higkways Board. Waipawa-Pourerere Main Highway. — Metalling was completed on the one mile of reeonstruction at the Waipawa end.
