REGIMENTAL BALL
Tho first meeting of the Regimontal Ball eommittee consistiug of members of both the local territorial units, tbe llawke's Bay Begiment and the Wei-lington-Eafet Coast Mounted Rifles, was held in the Drill Hall, Hastings, last Friday evening, Capt. 11. McKay presiding. The secretary was able to snow a very eatisfactqry balance-sheet as tho result of last year's activities, the ball having been one.of the most puccesB' ful on record. It will be remembered ^hat it was announced last year that the eommittee had engaged the Assembly Hill for this year's function for 'Joronation night, and arrangements were well in hand for the special attraction. Thise were reiuotantly abandoned wfien advice was received frojna the Mayor that, as the council had decided io iold a ball ou that night in conneotion vith its jubilee celebrations, the resamental booking had been cancelled. The eommittee had therefore had to altcr its arrangements, and the ball wai row take place on Thursday, August lh. This will be the first cccasion ioi* a ni^mber of years that the vjgnnental ball has been held in Ihe Assembly Hall, and it is confidently anticipated that the attendance will fuUy justify the action of the eommittee in ongag- i ing the larger buiJding. During the year small dauces wtre held by the Badminton Club und tbe i Mounted Hilles, proving tjute popular) and in addition the Mounted Rifies ■ sports held on Saturday, . une 6, demonstrated the fact that ihe puhiic gfeuerally aro now taking a gjVater interest in things territorial rban they have for a number c*f years, »t is I.oped to make this latter function annoal i one and a reijiuon for all old members of the rcgiment. \
