WITH THE HOUNDS
Enjoyable Meet A't "The Park" LARGE FOLLOWING (Contributed.) Hounds met at "The Park," Otane, on Friday * last. it was a fine, chilly day after a heavy frost. The ground was too cold for scent to be perfect, and the eye was called on to do some prompting. A pine covert was drawn on the coast side of the Patangata road, which procluced a hare. Two or three circles of the middle country and then over the Tod-Kittow boundary twice brought the field back to the four lakes. Here we checked and could not pick up our liue, but after ten minutes hounds started runniug again. We rau down and across the road by Mr. Wallace Tod's house Whether or not we ran our hunted hare, we put up a hare in the quarry, which ran toxlike towards Braehead, crossing the old riverbed on Mr. Tawse's property, then back downstream on Braehead. The hunt was going at a great pace, and we came back ciose to the Park Homestead. At this stage hounds closed on the hare, which was starting to zig-zag. A goofi hare is always hard to kill on clean country, and but for starting a fresh one, just as the hunted was beaten, we should have killed on the Tod-Tawse boundary. So ended the day, and a good one, on our old favourite property, Tlie Park. Those following were : — The Master, on Stroller, Deputy-Masters, J. N. Lowry," on Dusky and Bowyang; A. P.
