Championship Event Fane weather conditions prevailed for golf on the Waiohiki links on Saturday. The lirst rounds of match play in the club, intermediate and junior ehampionships were played, the matchps boing closely contested. ■ , The surprise of the day was tho defeat. of the club champion, J. R. Hobbs. j. W. Hapu, playlng a very steady g8,me, won by 2 up and one to play. Hobbs has h-eld the championship for the past four yeare. Following are the results of matches played:— CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. A. Kawhe beat A. A. Winclair, 1 up. J. W. Mapu beat J. R. Hobbs, 2 and 1. A. D'. Morris beat J. C. Hare, 4 and 3. It. Woi-ker beat G. L. Home-pouglas at the 19th. H. M. ' EUiott beat 0. Atkinson, 4 and 3. - H. E. Troutbeck beat R. W. Dalgleisli, 4 and 2. A. E. Lawry beat H. G. Davi.es, 3 and 1. R. I. Harrison beat C. S. Geddis, 6 nnd 4. INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP. R. J. Pattison beat S. V. Ayling, 5 and 4 G. A. Griffiths beat L. W. Willis, 3 and 2. F. H. Simpson beat J. S. Clark at the 19th. P. G. Tizard beat A. M. McClurg, 5 and 4. H. Brown beat H. C. Barlow at the 19th. L. Boland beat H. C. Sproule, 2 and 1. Two matches in this grade have yet to be played. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. A. Dinnie beat J. A. S. Wenley. W. Somerset-Smith beat H. E. Reaney, 4 and 3. K. K. Cutfield beat A. C. Biggs, 8 and 7. A. H. D. Mayne beat A. Pellow at the 19th. E. S. Burkitt beat 0.. Hdadley at the 19th. Thefe are three matches yet to be played in this cdmpetition. BOGEY HANDICAP A bogey handicap played an conjunction with the championship rounds resulted in a tie, A. E. Lawry (4) and A. Dinnie (17) returniing cards of 3 up.
