PARK MEETING Several Close and Exciting Finishes TOTALISATOR INCREASE The Napier Park Racing Club concluded its winter meeting at Greenmeadows on Saturday after providing two days of interesting racing; The totaKsator showed an increase of £942 10/- for the meeting, as compared with the winter fixture last year. The close and exciting finishes reflected credit upon the judgment of the handicapper, Mr H. Coyle. The judge, Mr A. Y. O'Brien, carried out his task with every satisfaction. The field s were got away promptly by Mr A. "Vincent, who made very satisfactory dispatches. The management committee and the various offieials are to be complimented on the prompt xunning of the events on both days. This was greatly appreciated by the public. After the running of the Park Steeples an inquiry was held dnto the riding of Wykemist by C. Carroll from the hen-coop to the winning post. Wykemist struck this jump heavily, but cleared the last well, having a lead of about two lengths from Dozie who, making a strong run over the fiual stages, caught ihe favourite a shorfc distance off the post, winning by a Lead. The Istewards, after hearing Carroll 's explanation, were satisfied that lxe committed an error of judgment. As no careless riding was shown no action was taken. J. Forsyth was the most successful horseman, having two winning mounts. , Mr C. E. Twiet secured two auccessive wins, making four to the credit of stables at Greenmeadows. The totalisator handled £6440 for the day, making £13,178 for the meeting, as compared with £12,^36 10/- for tho winter meeting last year. Stephens' b.m., 5rs., 8.7 (H. Callahan) 2 5 Anubis — Mr Ian Henderson 's ch.g., 6yrs., 8.7 (C. Bhields) 3 (Wiuner trainer by W. M. MeEjinnon, Greenmeadows.) Also started: 2 Mon Ace 8.7, 9 Clavercourt 8.7, 6 Marching On 8.7; 1 tihani 8.7, 4 Thala 8.0, 7 Btar Lad 8.0. Both Thala and Star Lad were left when the tapes rose. Seattle was flrst co show out, after the field had settlod down, from Clavercourt, Tullamore, Shani, Anubis and Mon Ace. After the run. across the top Clavercourt headed off Seattle to take over the lead, with Anubis, Shani and Tullamore all weli placed. Clavercourt was sighted first .as they turned into the straight, but after straighteniag up she dropped out of the running. Seattle and Anubis I were for a ehort time the leaders; then 1 Tullamore came fhrough, but Seattle j was still full of running. In a hard j race to the judge Tullamore prevailed j tjy half a length. Anubis was third I fcwo lengths back, just beating the favourite, Shani, by a nose. Timo, 1.15 4-5. WINTER OATS HANDICAP. Of £125; 7 furlongs. L GAY HUNTER— Mr H. K. Blygain started best after they were sent away, to lead from Wasteland, PaBsion Fruit and Gay Hunter. As they rau across the top they kept in " their positions, which were maintained without change into the Bt^aight, the field being content to leave the pacemakang to Blygain to this stage. Once in lino the favourite loet no time in moving up to the leaders. Both Passion Fruit and Passion Flower were not to be outdistanced and the best finish of the day was staged when the trio wont over the line almost on level terms, tho favourite prevailing by half a neck, a nose separating second and third. Blygain was fourth. Time. 1.27. NEWSTEAD HACK HANDICAP. Of £100; 7 furlongs. 1 BLACK FOX— Mr W. A. Iorns' br.c., 3 yrs., by Nigger Minstrel — Silver Grey, 8.7 (S. Wiiaon) .... 1 5 Hinepit — Mr C. L. Fergueon's b.m., 4yrs., 8.4 (R. Marsh) ...... 2 2 Royal Fcast — Mr H. Jonos's b.g., 6yrs„ 8.10 (B. H. Morris) ; 3 (VYinner trained by J. H. Jefferd, Ngatarawa.) Also starlod; 0 Fossicker 9.8, 4 Oironde 8.10, 7 Blue Tigor 8.7, 6 Paui Roboson 8.5, 8 Pucemi 8.4, 9 Golden Time 8.0. Paul Robcson was first to broak the line, leading Royal Feast, Hinepit, Black Fox, Golden Time and Fossicker. They raced in that order to the home bend, where Royal Feast went to the frout to lead into tlie straight from Paul Robeson, Hinepit, Black Fox, Fossicker and Gironde. The favourite at this stage bcgan to - make his run, but found strong opposition in Hinepit, the pair fighting out a gruelling finish,Black Fox winning by half a neck.
