Licensee Sued for Penalty

CHEIS.TCHURCH, Last Night. The lirst claim in Canterbury for a penalty under the compulsory-unionism legislation was heard to-day when the Labour Department sued Oliver Francis Watson, licensee of the Lancaster Park Hotel, for employing four nonunion harinen. Xt was explained that Mr. Watson employed a large staff on days when football matches were played on the park and that, ulthough they were employed only for a short space of tinie, they were givon tho award wages of £1 a day. Howover; they were not merubers of tho union, and at the time there were union barrncn out of employment. A penalty of 5/- was imposed on each charge by Mr. Eeid, S.M.
