The whole of southern England was last nigiht swept by a violent thunderstorm, Eiccompanied by heavy rains and winds, which in some places reacha velocity of 70 miles an hour: At one period four separate etorms were ragmg round London. The rains were the heaviest experienced for some months. Lightning struck a bigli tensiou cable ut Battesliangoi Colliery, Kent, and the eleotric lighl supply of hasb lient was temporafiJy cut olf. Sumo buildings were also struck in varioua placee and there was fioodmg, but no serious personal injuries are reported. General material damage is slight.
