TERRORISM IN YUGOSLAVIA

Criticism of Government Not ; Permitted TERRIBLE PUNISHMENT ; LONDON, Juae 11. The latest land of terror is Yugoslavia, aceording to the Daily Herald, which claims that the prisons are full of men and women whose only offence has been. to criticise the Government or the police. Even children who visited the homes of suspects were put in gaol for days or weeks while their parents were questioned. The Herald alleges that confessions were extorted from the prisoners by means of a number of tortures, including flogging, mutilation, applying eggs taken from boiling water to the armpits, and forcing needles nnder the fingernails. The paper adds that men and women have been treated in such a way that they are doomed to frightful diseases throughout their life, if they even leave prison. A careless word or an attempt to resist police brutality are adCqukto reasons for arrest and torture.
