TARADALE TOWN BOARD

Action Against Rate Defaulters BUSINESS OF THE MONTH The monthly meeting of the Taradale Town Board waa held last night. Present : Messrs F. O. Anderson (in the chair)- W. H. C. Howard, G, Webb and J. A. Wilkinson. Leave of absence was granted to the chairman, Mr J. Williamson, and to Mr J. B. Wainseott. In reply to the board's recent repreBentation regarding a proposal to have Church road, Taradale, declared a highway, the Hawke's Bay County Council advised that the Main Highways Board was being appfoached as requested. The road is a connecting link betweeii the Taradale-Puketapu road and the highway leadiiig to Wharerangi. In regard to the playing of Rugby football Ou. the Taradale Park, it WaS decided to advise the HaWke's Bay Rugby Union tliat the board was prepared to ptit the ground into order if the union was prepared to lease it. The clerk and overseer, Mr W. G. Jarvis, in his mbnthly report stated : Roads : Minor repairs were done where necessary to the bitumen-sealed surface of main highways, and gtading on Meeanee, Churcli, and other roads. Th© sharp corner at the intersection of Taradale cemetery and Neeve-Harpham main highway could be mnch improved by extending the culvert and filling in thiB nasty corner, The fence alon^ Avondale road has been ereoted on the new line in readineSs for the widening of this road.- This latter worb will be put in hand as Boon as i>ossibJe. ilrains : The contracts for cleaning about sis ttiiles of main drains wero conlpleted. Some of the smaller drains are now b^ing attended to. • Housing Survey: The plan is not yet t0 hand, but the inspection work and compilation of the report should be put in hand in order that the statement to Minister may be completed by July 31. ' i)rivers' Licences; Two hundred and ninety-fiive licences have been issued to date. The total for last year was 420. Outstanding rates: A list of defaulters was handed to the boatd's solicitors with the instruction that immediate action should be taken. Very little has been received since April 1, atid unless payinent is made before the end of the current month the subsidy Will be lost to the board.
