Fire at Rotorua

ROTORUA, Last Night. Shortly before 4 o'clock this morniugj Surrey House, a private hotel of ' 2S rooms, was almost entirely gutted bjf1 a fire which broke out apparently xa, one of the boaxder's bedrooms. When the alarm was given the fire had a strong hold, but the proprietress, Mrs. L. Devin, her daughter, and.members of the stafir, together with five guests were all awakened and made their escape. The brigade f ought thsf flames- for over an hosr befors they were subdued. Good work was done in preventing the apreading of the fire to a neigh* . bouring block of big. buildings fromj which it was separated by a narrowj right-of-way.
