Man Fined £5 . "This seems to be a rather' bad case," remarked Mr J. Miller, S.M., in ihe Hastings Magistrate's Court this morning when Henry Pipene, Pakipaki, was fined £6 for using obscene language last evening in Russell street. Defendant pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer said that, while under the influence of liquor, defendant shouted loudly the language complained.of in Russell street opposite the bus stop. There were many women and children about, and business people finaliy telepboned the police, Defendant was still usipg bad language when the police arrived and .arrested him, "I wonld have sent you to gaol had it not been apparently your first offence," remarked the Magistrate in convicting and fining defendant £5, in default one inonth's impiisonment.
