BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY
There was not a very large attendance of members of the Singing Group of the British Musi-c Society at tho home of Mrs Parkinson, Knight street, on Monday last, owing to the inclemency of the weather. Those present, however, enjoyed an interesting evening in the consideration of Russian music. Articles on the history of music in Russia from Glinka to the contemporary composers and the li'ves of individual composers and their works were Tead by Miss Wiilliams. The following contributed to the illustrating programme: — Rubenstein: " Spring 'a Yearning," Miss Mae Cnnnold; "Fair and Sweet and Holy, ' ' Miss Joyce Symonds; duet, "Wanderer's Night Song," Misses Williams and Cunnold. Moussorgsky: "On the River Don," Mass Phyllis Boshier. Tschaikowsky: "Only a Yearning Heart," Mrs Corrigan. RimskyKortsakov: "Song of India" (Sadko), Miss Deicie "Williams. • After supper, Mrs Parkinson was thanked for her hospitality. The next meeting of the group, a study of Celtic musiic, will be held on July 4.
