Jovality Pays a Handsome Dividend MARSH RIDES 2 WINNERS With an increased totalisator turn- ' over of £1954 10/-, the Napier Park j Eacing Club had a most suecessful day ' yesterday for the opening of its winter meeting. The weather held fine, though it was rather cold. The racing throughout was interesting and of a good standard. Several close finishes were staged, providing the crowd with isome most exeiting moments. The surprise of the day was dn the final event, in which Joviality, an outsider who showed his heels throughout the journey, returned his supporters a handsome two-figure dividend. The arrangements for the day were ably carried out by the responsible officials, the events being run well on the schednlad hime. R. Marsh wa)s tne most suecessful horseman, having two winning mounts. The totalisator handled £673S for the day, as compared with £4773 10/- for the opening day last year, an increase of £1954 10/-. Following are the coneluding results:— • FLYING HANDICAP. Of £120; 6 furlongs. 1 P ANANUI— Bst. J. M. Reedy's br.h., 4yrs., by Hunting Song — Love Token, 9.7 (S. Anderson) . . 1 2 Blygain — Mr W. Wilson's ch.in., 6yrs., 8.9 (R. Marsh) 2 3 Gay Hunter — Mr H. K. Swan's h.g., 3yrs., 8.8 (J. Forsyth) .... 3 Also started: 6 Passion Flower 8.12, 5 Lavina 8.9, 7 Bunfight 8.0, 4 Gasmau 8.0. _ . Lavdna was best away, but soon lost the lead to Blygain. At the half-mile Pukanui moved up to take the lead on the home turn, going on to win easily by two lengths. Blygain finished well clear of Gay Hunter, who made a good run up the straight from fairly well back to beat Gasman for third.. Time, 1.14 1-5. MEEANEE HACK HANDICAP Of £100; 6 furlongs. 0 .TOVIAEITY— Mr F. T. Hall'e b.g., 4yrs., by Hunting Song— Merry Roe, 8-5 (H. Callihan) .... 1 1 Fossicker — Mr S. Kirkpatrick 's ch.g., 5yrs., 9.5 (J. Leach) 2 5 Perfect La.dy — Mr N. E. F. Loisel's br.f., 3yrs., 8.3 (S. Anderson) 3 Also started: 3 Marjory Daw 8.7. 2 Hinepit 8.7, 8 Trackman 8.5. 4 Tupai 8.4, 7 Golden Time 8.0. Starting best from a good send-away, Joviality showed the way to Perfect Lady, Fossicker, Hinepit, Trackman and Golden Time. They raeed in urichanged order into the straight. with Joviality still iilling the role of pacemaker. After straightehing up for home to the post he continued on stropgly. Fossicker, af£er getting into second place, looked dangerous, but he was unable to gather in Joviality, who showed his heels throughout, flashing over the ldne half a lcngth ahead of the favourite. Perfect Lady was a similar inargin back t'or third. Hinepit was fourth. Time, 1.15.
