FOOTBALL QUEEN CARNIVAL DANCE AT WAIPUKURAU
The carnaval spirit prevailej at the very successful Queen Carnival dance, which was held in the Masonic Hall, Waipukurau, last eveuing. The dance was organised by Mrs J. A. McLean, wlio was abjy assisted by Mesdames H. Peacock, Y. Bradley, F. A. G. Dunu, Miss 1{. Monckton, Messrs S. Peretkins) 31. Heise and' J. A. McLean, to raiso funds for tlie Waipukurau town queen, Miss Shirley Clay, and this hard workiug committee are deserving of great praise for the success of their tfforts. Les Henry's orchestra played delightful dance music, which haped greatly towards the success of the eveuing. A novelty competition run during the eveuing was a source of much attraction. The dance hall and small stage were simply decorated with big bunches of coral pink flowering gum, similar decorations being used in the supperroom, where a buffet savoury supper of hot coffee, oyster patties and a great variety of sandwiches, was mucli appreciated by the dancers. Prior to the dance a bulfet dinner party was held at Mrs F. A. Dunn's residence, Hill street. Among those present were: — Mrs J. A. McLoan, wearing a trained gown of oriental • patterned crepe " de chene, with big green velvet roses oa the neckline. Miss Shirley Clay, lemon chiffon flowered in flame and blue sashed in blue- talfeta. Mrs H. Peacock, black ripple crepe, the square cut neckline finished with white gardenias and long black and white sash fastened with white satin rings. Mrs A. L. McCormick, ruby red taffeta finished at tlie waistline with a round diamante buckle. Mrs V. Bradley, black dewdrop corded velvet, with a big oriental buckle of brilliants at the neckline. Mrs F. A. G. Dunn, sunray pleated lavinder geogrette, having shoulder strap of violets and taffeta sash. Mrs P. F. Wall, deep blue taffeta checked in gold, the trained skirt closely shirred at tlie baek and diamante clasp on eaeh shoulder. Mrs Tollemache, black and red shot velvet, worn with a scarlet corsage spray. Mrs W. D. Fleming, black g4orgette inset with black laoe. Mrs S. Train, black crepe de cliene with a folded corsage of ,gold Jame worn with long turquoise blue ear rings and necklace. Mrs W. B. Fisher, turquoise blue lace, the full skirt finished with taffeta ruchings. • Mrs J. Kendall, white and black plain ripple crepe, worn with a black velvet coatee. Mrs C. Schroder, black crepe de chene, patterned in white, worn with a black velvet coatee. Mrs A. Annand, wearing black chiffon velvet with a scarlet rose at the neckline and a black taffeta coatee having sliort shirred sloevcs. Mrs O'Rourke, black georgetto and lace, with a diamante clasp at waistline. Mrs S. Peterkins, cream chiffon flowered in recl roses, fashioned with a trained skirt and a matching shoulder spray. Mrs J. H. Walker, sky blue lace, with frills on the skirt and long Bhouldcr spray of flame roses. Miss J. Ormond, Mary blue chiffon ■ worn with a long 'matching t neke 3
shoulder cape and a corsage spray in shaded pink roses. Miss Mary Wall, white frilled gown with a flared hemine and flared shoulder frills, the front neckline finished with a spray of silver metal leaves. Miss A. Wilder, graceful gown in black ninon with a draped corsage and full skirt, worn with a spray of shaded pink rosebuds. Miss E. Grivor, spring green crepe with dBublo net frills over the shoulders outlined in pink .briar roses. Miss Shelia Moroney, rose pink phantom crepe closely gauged over the shoulders and a wide stitched belt. Miss Jean Speedy, flame, navy and lemon flowered chiffon, having long shoulder strap and sash in pale pink and blue satin. Miss Bensen, black cotelle, diagonally stripid in black beads, having turned back lapels of silver lame and a pearl clasp. Miss N. Staines, flame taffeta gown, having short puffed sleeves. 1 Miss R. Monckton, wearing black lace, with a moss green velvet coatee. Miss Meg. Anderson, sky blue moire taffeta, having lapels and girdle of gold lame. Miss June Hewitt, wearing a lime green skirt, with a tailorcd coatee in silver lame. Miss Joan Hartland, champagne chen-" ille embossed chiffon, having a very full hemline and rose pink corsage spray. Miss Joan Matthews, pale pink American silk, flowered in a darker shade and sashed in blue velvet. Miss Ruth Hepburn, cream taffeta, flowered in pink and blue, worn with a matchinjr coatee. Miss Sylvia Monckton, lemon goorgette, flowered in flame poppies, the split back fastened with two big cream buttons. Miss Moffat, pale green skirt, worn with a cream silk tunic. Miss Prue Wilder, ink blue georgctte, fashioned with narrow corsage frills and a very full skirt. Miss Judy Sommerville, lemon and leaf brown flowered chiffon, prettily shirred^ over the shoulder. Miss V. Blair, white taffeta flowered in pink and blue posies, having long sling sleeves. Miss Berran, black satin, having a turned-down collar and jabot in white satin. Miss1. Honey Cuthbert, trained gown in rt>se pink and blue iloral American silk. Miss H. Cochrane, shell pink silk lace gown, sashed in pink taffeta.
