WELLIKGTOK, Last Kight. A declaratiou that the statements published at Auckland suggeatibg causes of unrest atoong railway ehiployees were not made with the autbflrity of the men'a responsible organisations was made by the GencTal Managef of liailways (Mr. Mackley) to-day. He says there was a general understanding formally conflrmed by the Minister in communieations addressed to the three organisatiohs representing the second division of employees that it was reasonable to allow the questlon of anomalies to remain in abeyance in view of the cost involved in the very substantial improvenient in the conditions and pay through tha introductioa of the shortor working WOek. ° That Jiad been agreed to by the second division on the understanding that the anomalies would be revicwed some time subsequent to April 1 and before next September whieh woflld be 12 months after the introduciion of the 40-hour week.
