(Reeeived 9, 10.0 a.mi) LONDON, June 8. What may turn out to be a serious i'ival to Australian wool has been discovered by Mf. Townsend, chief investigation officer for the Customs DeparL ment. On a visit to Czechoslovakia he inspected the Bata Shoe Go., the largest boot firm in the world. Scientists explained the development of artifleial wool and Tubber. They claimed that the latter was more costly than the natural product, but proved equal in the necessary qualities, and it was definitely more durabl'e. It was elaimed that artiflcial wool, which was manufactured under a diffierent process to that of Germany, had aU the Oh&fae*teristics of sheep's .wool, especialiy regarding warmth and absorption of tnoisture when made into garments, and was suitable for spinning and weaving.
