Board's Proposals for Development WHARF EXTENSION

AUCKLAND, Last Night. A programme pf port developanent which includes three major wharf extension sehemes and is estimated ,to co#t £1,190,000 wa* decided npoa by ' the Auckland Harbour Board at a special meeting. It i» propplod to promote a private .bill to empower the board to borrow £1,000,000 tp en$ble the works to be undertaken a* and when required. The sehemes, which wero outlined recently by the late chairman, Mr. C. GMacindoe, prpvide fpr the cpn.straction of an exporfc wharf and other essential Works at cost of £483,000, special accommodation for passenger and tonrist vessels co.sting £275,006, and prpviaion of deep water b'erthage _ on the eastern waterffout by reelamation and the eonstruetion of' breastwp?k* and quays at a cost of £432,000. As the outcome of a plan to build an export wharf from the eastern reelamation between the vehicular ferry wharf and King's wharf negotiations have been proceeding between the board and the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Coy., Ltd., for the leasing of part ' of the reelamation fpr the purpose of eonstruetion by the company of a large dairy produce store "equipped with np-fo-date plant for the handliug and more efficient loading of bntter and cheese. A report explaining the company 's need of more storage accommodation for butter and cheese and giving the cost of an export wharf and other necessary works was submitted to the board by the superintendent and engineer, Mr. D- Holderness, and was adopted. The board authorised the works set out in the Teport and decided to apply to the Local Govefnment Loans Board for its sanction to .the raising of the necCssary loan monies. It also granted to the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Coy. a lease of an area of approximately five and three-quarter ^cres for a term of 21 years with a perpetual right pf renewal for the same term, the rental for the first two years of the lease to be £2250 per annum and £4500 for the remainder of the 21 years.
