WAIPUKUEAU, This Day. Beference to local body amalgamation was made at ' yesterday 's meeting of the Patangata County Council, when the Makara County Council wrote a lotter urging that amalgamation should not be carried out without a referendum of the ratepayers concerned. During a discussion on the matter Cr. J. D. Ormond Jnr. expressed the view that if the county councils in conferenee decided that reorganisation was desirable, that would be sufficient to justjfy a move, "It seems to me that it is a matter not so much for . the individual ratepayers to docide as for tliose who have niu the counties for years and know how they can be organised, " he said. Cr. E. H. White pointed out that, in supporting the resolution, the Waipukurau County Council had stipulated that the refercndum should be taken among the ratepayers of tho individual bodies concerned, and not over the combincd ratepayers of the whole area. _ The letter Avas received, 011 the motion of tho chairman, Cr. C. Pattison, seconded by Cr. Ormond.
