(Reeeived 8, 1.0 p.m.) DERBY, June 7. Derby completed its best second innings score of thc season on a perfect wieket and was given a magnificent start _ by Smith and Alderman. The former batted attractively, hitting a dozen fours and a six. Alderman was alternately grave and gay and compiled tke second highest score of his first. class eareer, staying nearly live koura and hitting ten fours and three sixes. Tke New Zealand bowlers stuek gameiy to their difficult task of dismissing seven batsmen in tke tkree hours dfter Iundh. Cowie bowled witk tons of energy, but did not kave an. ounce of luck, several tiines shaving tke strumps and being snieked past fieldsm ek. Dunning also bowled better tkan tke final figures suggest. Page was never scored from freeiy, wkile Vivian eaptured a valuable wicket. Donnelly was inexpensive and effective after tea. Only during the first wieket partnerskip did the bowling appear masrtered. The fielding was unwavering an.d a brilliant catch was taken at first slip ay Page. A thousand scboolboys were given a special holiday for tke occasion and swelled the crowd to tkree thousand.
